Abstrak
Background – Cancer is a leading cause of global mortality that triggers severe psychological stress in perioperative patients. While the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol is proven to accelerate recovery, conventional hospital education is often constrained by time, unstructured, and lacking in post-operative information. This condition exacerbates anxiety and reduces patient comfort. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using structured video-based digital education regarding the ERAS protocol in reducing anxiety levels and improving comfort among cancer patients undergoing surgery
Methods – This study utilized a literature review design with a narrative approach. A systematic literature search was conducted across PubMed, Scopus, and ScienceDirect databases for publications spanning 2020–2025. Study selection followed the PRISMA guidelines, and quality assessment was performed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal tools. From 135 initially identified articles, 6 final articles met the inclusion criteria.
Results – Literature synthesis demonstrated that audiovisual-based digital education significantly reduced pre-operative anxiety scores and post-operative physical complaints such as pain, nausea, and vomiting. Structured videos offer the advantages of accessibility and information repetition without increasing nursing workload. This enhances patient understanding of ERAS protocols (e.g., pre-operative fasting and early mobilization) and fosters a sense of control.
Conclusion – The integration of structured educational videos effectively reduces anxiety, enhances holistic comfort, and optimizes ERAS protocol compliance in perioperative cancer patients.
